mediterranean diet? is anyone on the mediterranean diet, or has anyone ever tried it? i need to lose 10-15 pounds, and i'm interested in different ways of doing so.
V&V Friends: Do you think we should ask YA for a "Mediterranean Diet" section? Mediterranean diet, meat reducer, piscavore or pescatarian… whichever word you like to give omnivores who only eat fish, do you think we should try to get them a section? I am sure to get lots of rude answers for this, but the pescavore/tarians probably have it tough. When they ask in the general food section about dishes where the only meat/ animal used is fish, they probably get lots of “eat steak” answers. Then they try to come to the vegetarian section to ask about eating sea animals, which then annoys (and sometimes offends) vegetarians because vegetarians don’t eat animals. Maybe if they got their own section, they could exchange lots of fish recipes and be happy to be around others like themselves. YA does add sections on occasion, so maybe if enough people asked, they could get their own little panel in YA. What are your thoughts? :)
Can a Mediterranean diet late in life undo all the damage that eating junk food did earlier? If you learn the error of your ways when you're in your 50s and switch to fruit, fresh vegetables, whole grains and omega 3 fish, will your body come right or are you permanently knackered after a lifetime of fizzy drinks, pies chips and lollies? And if you've eaten a lot of high cancer risk foods like char grilled meat, does your cancer risk come down if you quit and switch to bioflavonoids, red wine, pumpkin etc.?
Is the Mediterranean diet just another ridiculous diet? My doctor wants me to follow the Mediterranean diet for 2 weeks to monitor my blood sugar. But that just seems stupid because it is LESS healthy than my current diet! I'm all about clean eating: fresh fruits/produce, lean proteins, egg whites, no artificial crap and no soda. So if my diet is already super healthy, isn't ridiculous to ask me to change???? I am at a healthy weight and lead a healthy lifestyle. I just don't like the pasta/bread/etc. carbs!!
How can a busy student best fit the mediterranean/asiatic diet in his life? Hello, I'm following the mediterranean and asiatic diets (see http://www.mediterrasian.com) to have a healthier lifestyle and to lose weight (read: A LOT of weight). I have, however, a few questions: * Drinking half-a-bottle of decent wine is too expensive for me. I'm thinking about consuming one or two bottles each week, only. Is it better to drink a little everyday, or more less days? * As many brazilians, I consume huge amounts of cold-infused yerba mate (5-10L every day). Is it good or bad for my health? Has it the same benefits of tea? * Eating out costs the same for me, but isn't it better to skip the lunch at University, and eat only at home, having super-healthy breakfast and supper? * Besides carrots, are there any healthy and easily-made snacks I could carry around? * Is yoga good for losing weight? * Do I actually need anything more than 30 minutes of walking and a healthy diet to lose weight? Thank you very much for your time!
Does anyone know what The Mediterranean diet is? I've been reading news articles this evening about The Atkins Diet vs. a low-fat diet vs. the medieterranean diet, but can't find any info about it. What can you eat? What is off limits? Just what the heck is it???
Would a traditional "Mediterranean" diet be good for Filipinos? Why/why not? *high consumption of fruits, vegetables, bread and other cereals, potatoes, beans, nuts and seeds *olive oil is an important monounsaturated fat source *dairy products, fish and poultry are consumed in low to moderate amounts, and little red meat is eaten *eggs are consumed zero to four times a week *wine is consumed in low to moderate amounts
Did any body done the Mediterranean Diet? hi i want to know do it work and do it work what the food list you surpose to eat on this diet please tell me how the diet if done and how much weight u lose each month
Mediterranean Breakfast menu? I have been looking all over for what a traditional mediterranean breakfast menu would look like. Do you know of any books or websites that would have this info? We would like to begin a mediterranean diet, but we need to know what to serve for breakfast!
Are there any Mediterranean based diets? I love things like feta cheese, tomatos, olives, peppers,.... is there a Mediterranean sort of diet that is based on the sort of things you would get on holiday in Greece?!
Have to alter diet if I have low blood sugar? Is this normal? I was referred to an Endocronologist for low blood sugar. He wants me to test my blood sugar for 2 weeks on my normal diet, and 2 weeks on a Mediterranean diet (which is very heavy in grain carbs) My question is: do I really have to follow this diet he gave me? I'm already an incredibly healthy eatier - proteins, fruits, veggies... but I hate grain carbs (bread/pasta/rice) !! Is it really necessary that I follow his diet? I hate carbs and I don't want to gain weight :(
How do I cook fish and not make it taste like fish?? My husband and I are on the Miami Mediterranean diet and it calls for alot of fish. I'm really bad at cooking fish. (not including fried fish- I can do that I'm from mississippi) Baked or grilled. Is there a good marinade? What seasonings?? WE like tilopia and salmon.
What is the Mediterranean diet? Everyone seems to be going on about the Mediterranean diet nd how good it is for you, but what exactly is it and how do you adopt it?
What is a good red wine, that isn't super bitter and isn't full of sugar? I'm doing the Mediterranean diet and it says 1 small glass of red wine a night is good. We bought some boxed red wine.. LOL.. but I would say it's definitely not a healthy wine. It's super sweet and tastes good so I'm guessing its' full of sugar. What is a good tasting red wine that isn't really bad for you?
Why do vegetarians say meat isn't healthy when fish has Omega 3? I admire people who stand up for what they think is wrong but if it has only to do for health reasons shouldn't a diet that offers healthy veggies and meats be considered? The mediterranean diet offers the best of both worlds. Why does all meat get a bad rap from vegetarians? Omega-3 fatty acids reduce the risk of coronary heart disease. Why do vegetarians attack with this meat kills nonsense? Turkey - Is one of the leanest meats and good source of protein. Turkey is Rich in B vitamins and zinc and a great source of tryptophan a brain boosting nutrient. Like chicken it's a very healthy meat
Is gelatin in Yogurt unhealthy ? Where i live Yogurt plays a great part in the Mediterranean diet and tv-advertising can have a great impact. Now, a very popular advertisment states that "product A" Yogurt is better that the other "smoother" and "creamier" ones because it contains NO gelatin. Now everybody is just crazed about "gelatin" and do not buy the other Yogurt brands. Please explain to me why is/would Gelatin be wrong. Is it unhealthy? Thanks in advance! Hey! Nice answers everybody! I really liked they Muslim-view and the Vegeterian-view about it, did not think about it at first. And thanks for the spelling report. I too know it as "gelatine", but was not sure. Makes it kind of hard for me to choose a best answer...
Mediterranean diet book question...? My husband and I are looking into going on the mediterranean diet and I was wanting to find out is there an actual book that is recommend that is really informative, has the pyramid, recipes, food guidlines,etc..Why I ask is because we do alot of traveling for work but rarely have access to a computer si we can't use a website on the diet.We need a real book.A physical book on this diet would be perfect for us.What I'm looking for is a complete book that you could follow it and be set for good on the diet if you wanted to and all you'd have to do if you wanted to would be to find more recipes than what's in it.A basic how to book on this diet.Any help anyone can offer would be appreciated.Thanks.
Anybody got a positive experience of Atkins diet? A recent study showed that Atkins Diet was the most effective and SAFE when compared to the Low Calorie Diet and Mediterranean Diet. Am I doing myself good by eating olives? I remember there was an advert for an olive oil spread and it said that people live longer in the Mediterranean because of their diet. Since then I have always tried to eat lots of olives even though I don't love them but don't mind them and use olive oil and garlic a lot. Am I really doing myself some good by eating lots of olives?
I need to find this cookbook...help!? My friend is trying to figure out the name of this cookbook. She said that she saw it at a restaurant and it was a bluish cover she thinks, the author maybe was dr. osbert (not sure on that one) and is some sort of mediterranean diet book. Anyone know?
Can What You Eat Make A Huge Difference?? People say, you are what you eat, and that it can change your health and appearance in many ways. Can what you eat really change your appearance?? Like let's say I were to go on a mediterranean diet, would I start looking like a Lebanese person?
Has anyone tried the Mediterranean diet? What is the basic program? What foods are allowed/not allowed? I also want to read up on it. Can anyone recommend a good book that explains everything in detail? Also, if you have used the diet, how did you like it? What were problems? What was good about it? Was it easy to stick to? Did you lose weight on it? Are you still sticking with it?
Which diet would I benefit from? I don't want anyone saying "YOU DONT NEED TO GO ON A DIET" Its something I want to do for myself. To feel good about myself. I'm 14, a girl, I'm 5'8.5 and I weigh 135 pounds. I'd like to be 125. I've tried making up my own diet plans, but I think I need a stricter one. Which diet is right for me? Adkins? South Beach? Mediterranean? I'm very active. I play soccer and basketball. I jump rope, swim, and lift weights. Which diet do you tihnk I'd benefit from? To get to 125? I'd like to be that by July 10th.
Middle Eastern/Mediterranean Tofu Recipes? As far as vegan fillings are concerned, we use lentils, lots of lentils, and chickpeas, and have for a loong time. Tofu does not traditionally have a place in the Middle Eastern/Mediterranean (refer to as MEM from now on, and excluding Indian food which is wonderful but of a distinct flavor) diet. But, I've loved every South and East Asian tofu dish that I've had so far -- especially the one we ate tonight!! -- and I can tell that tofu can be made to satisfy the MEM taste. I just don't have too much experience in cooking it myself and have yet to master the issue of its texture. Specifically, my question is this: What are some variations on MEM dishes that can involve tofu AND have a truly MEM taste and at least close to a MEM feel as well -- that would almost fool a MEM person? If such exist, how to cook it? I know that I can probably google any food combination and get SOME recipe. But I want the most "MEM" tofu recipe. :) Thanks! Thank you already! Any more tofu variants of non-vegetarian dishes, like the moussaka example (btw, awesome because when I was brainstorming with my husband last night we were wondering how moussaka can be made with tofu since tofu goes so well with eggplant!)? I do love Greek, Turkish, Syrian, Lebanese, Armenian, Israeli foods. I will try my borek (Turkish spanakopita) with tofu next time and suggest using tofu for my mom's sarma (Turkish dolmades), thank you. We have mixed tofu instead of feta in salad before -- I agree it works great. Thanks for the recipes. :) One more thing: I am a little bit wary of using tofu for cacik (tzatziki), both because I never used silken tofu and because even the type of yogurt used could so much affect the taste. Did you try this already (make sure it works)? :)
What are weight loss diet pills and how exactly do they help you lose weight? like what do they do, make you want to eat less (lol i wish) or what? no i am not overweight, i am perfectly NORMAL, that is the problem. i weight 110 and i am 14 and that may seem ok but not for me since i am training to be a professional dancer. i dance 3 hours everyday. except sunday, and believe me, its not that easy AT ALL. so dont go on telling me i am normal, because it wont help, but thanks for the answers anyways! first one who answer my question and actually helps me lose some weight gets ten points! what other formulas or diet stuff can i like drink to lose weight? my family is all into organics, and there is not one teeny bag of junk food in our house. we don't eat white bread, i eat nonfat yogurt, 1% fat milk, and all the food my mom cooks is like Mediterranean and all that. we get our food at all-organic stores and not like at food4less and allbertsons and smiths and etc. whatever.
Is it too late to start eating healthy? I was brought up on a typical English diet full of the wrong fat and rubbish, but now I have the choice what to eat I eat Mediterranean type food such as oily fish, olive oil and garlic. I was wondering if it's too late now to make a difference for my body to eat healthy or has the damage been done as I was growing up?
Need Help! How do I make my presentation interesting? I've got a 7 minute oral presentation to do on the topic "You are what you eat: a study of the role of diet and nutrition in health, lifestyle and longevity. Which diets lead to better health and why?" I have chosen to talk about the Mediterranean diet and the Okinawan diet, but due to the scientific background of my topic can't really seem to think of a way to include the audience. I will be using powerpoint as visual aid, but would like my presentation to be remembered for the right reasons and make it enjoyable. I need a way to get my message across, something really simple but effective. Just a bit of b/ground info; Okinawa has the most people living over 100 which is why I have chosen to find out why exactly they are living so long, it is to do with the fact that they have a low caloric diet. The Med. diet on the other hand is known for lowering the risk of heart disease resulting in longevity, due to their high consumption of olive oil, fish etc etc.

I have dandruff and its worse during the summer, why is that? the norm is to get it during the winter, I'm the opposite. I get it every summer, although lately I've been under alot of stress, which also causes it. Is it normal to have this during the summer? I figure its due to the oils produced during the winter that help my scalp keep moisturized. I maintain a mediterranean diet and have plenty of olive oil. I've also had oily skin my whole life. And still every summer I end up with grotesque dandruff, it sometimes gets really bad and I scratch till I bleed, which I know is bad. I read somewhere to try olive oil with honey and to leave it on the scalp for a while. I've also been using FINESE, or however you spell it, a shampoo I've used since I was younger. I know it doesn't have SLS in it but I wonder about its other ingredients. Also, I used to dye my hair and that would always get rid of my dandruff for a while, does that mean its bacterial? I always figured it killed off whatever it was. I'm thinking about using vinegar.

mediterranean diet? Ok so my doctor advised me to avoid carbs in my diet and avoid sugar as much as I can, so he told me to try the mediterranean diet, but I'm always on the go. This is what I have to avoid: no potatoes, no bread which includes pita bread, gryos, wheat bread...you name it), no pasta, no sweets, I dont eat pork, and I dont like beef (except for ground beef). Breakfast is the hardest for me because everything basically is starchy: bagels, egg sandwiches, muffins, cereals, flavored yogurts, fruits....I want to pack lunch which is easy, but breakfast, you cant pack cold eggs! yuck! What the heck do I eat, just salads w/ feta cheese, and chicken all the time. This is frustrating. Breakfast hits me the hardest really, because I'm used to getting a filling breakfast and coffee. Now I have to drink green tea, and have cottage cheese, thats not going to stick to me for hours, I'm not overweight, I eat everything in moderation, I just want to maintain my weight because I'm a petite person I do cardio 3 times a week, and just veggies are not going to stick to me.....i dont want to starve.....and the only dressing I can have is olive oil or balsamic vinegarette...doesnt vinegarette have tons of sodium in it? how is that healthy?

Does "have to" express necessity here? There is a conversation: Pedro: Tom, why is the food in English so awful? Tom: Hey, come on Pedro. It's not that bad. In fact, it's better than most other European countries. Pedro: But not Spain. The diet of the Mediterranean has to be one of the best. "Have to" is in the sentence "The diet of the Mediterranean has to be one of the best." I don't think necessity makes sense here, what's your idea?
*** LOSING WEIGHT with ETHNIC foods/cuisines? I'm trying to lose weight and maintain a healthy diet. Which ethnic cuisine(s) do you recommend? I think Mediterranean (Italian, Greek, Spaniard, French, etc.) is generally good but I haven't tried them enough to judge. I also think some Middle Eastern cuisines (Arabic, Persian, Turkish, etc.) are healthy to some degree because they're not too salty, sweet or spicy. Could you recommend which ethnic cuisine(s)? Which dishes? It doesn't have to be the above mentioned (Mediterranean, Middle Eastern, etc.) your recommendation can be anything as long as you give me a reasonable reason why I should try those... Please give me which cuisine(s) (what country/region) you think is healthier in general (especially when trying to lose weight) plus some names specific dishes. Thank you!
i need a title for this paragraph? Then, suddenly, a frightening disaster relieved the population pressure. When the plague struck the Italian city of Florence in 1348, for example, between half and two-thirds of the population of 85,000 died.
Smoothies and Apatite suppressants? is it bad that i can go an entire day and just eat two fat free pumpkin bread rolls (120 calories) which have been acting like an amazing apatite suppressant. and drinking two fat metabolizing fruit smoothies? Before, i would drink a smoothie for lunch and after i worked out. but that wouldn't effect my hunger, so i would still eat 3 full meals a day. But since i started getting the pumpkin bread rolls and fat metabolizing smoothies from smoothie planet and tropical smoothie, I am no longer hungry. At all. I have also been taking 6 hydroxycut extreme pills a day, and the daily dosage of centrum complete. I work out daily, where i run three miles a day, and 5-10 mins of jumping rope. What can I do to stay fit????? Okay, so I'm 5'0" and about 110 pounds. I look fine in clothes, but without them I notice slight love handles and a belly, which is really taking down my self confidence. I'm 15 and know the health hazards of dieting early on in life, and from 7th grade, three years ago, I've lost seven pounds by cutting down calories to 1300 per day and excersizing. I'd been doing well, but then I started slowly gaining weight. Currently I do: 100 crunches 20 lunges 20 squats 20 supermans (back workout) 30 second flutter kick (for lower abs) 15 push ups 10 minute Stretch My friend and I agreed to start walking about 30 minutes four days a week starting in five days. I've also been looking into the mediterranean diet, which is basically healthy pastas filled with vegatables (lean meats optional). But I wanted to know if any of you knew any good, quick excersizes that I can do at home without equipment to tone and slim down. As well as any ways to remain dedicated to my diet? Thanks!
Dark Circles? I have dark circles under my eyes. I drink a lot of water, have a healthy diet, sleep at least 8 hours (about 10 on weekends) and have no allergies besides Dayquil and Nyquil - so I know it must be hereditary. (Latina/Mediterranean/Native American) I heard that using products that increase to thickness of the skin under your eyes will lessen the appearance of the circles. Do you any products that do this? If that doesn't really work, can you tell me some things that do? Thank you.
